Biography
Zachary Pepe
I am currently enjoying my second year as a teacher here at St. John's. I recently graduated from Ball State University with a degree in Elementary Education and a focus on Psychology and Counseling. I'm using that degree to teach fifth grade reading and to teach K-8 in the computer lab. I initially went into education because of the many positive influences I had as a student here at St. John's and it's a blessing to be able to come back and work with many of the same teachers who inspired me in the first place. The only thing I've struggled with has been trying to call my former teachers by their first name. I just don't think it's going to happen.
On a more personal note, I love to read, which has helped me tremendously with my fifth grade reading class. It's hard not to be interested in a subject when the teacher is truly passionate about it. Some of my favorite books include: Franny and Zooey by J.D. Salinger, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, The Stranger by Albert Camus and Catch 22 by Joseph Heller. I also like to play basketball, though my game has really slipped ever since I found out what little spare time teachers have. Somehow though I'm still better than any of my students, especially the ones that are reading this. I also enjoy playing football, hanging out with my friends, watching the occasional movie and not answering my eighth graders when they ask me about my personal life.
